The 2014 football season could not have finished better for the Big Ten. After years of hearing loud, and usually justifiable, criticism it was vastly overrated, the Big Ten came through with flying colors. Ohio State won the first College Football Playoff championship. Michigan State finished in the Top 5 in the final Associated Poll for the second straight season after a thrilling Cotton Bowl victory over highly-regarded Baylor. Ohio State beat Oregon of the Pac 12 in the CFP championship game – after upsetting mighty Alabama from the SEC in the semifinals. Baylor tied for the Big 12 title with TCU, a team it beat. Wisconsin defeated Auburn from the SEC in a bowl game. Advertisement That’s a lot cache from wins over teams from the power conferences in huge postseason showdowns. The Big Ten was, dare we say, dominant during the 2014 football campaign. Now, with fall practice set to begin, the question begs to be asked, can the Big Ten repeat such a stellar performance?
