Updated AUG 4, 2015 at 11:42a ET While Jim Harbaugh of Michigan has garnered lots of headlines throughout the offseason, Mark Dantonio at Michigan State remains the biggest threat to unseat Ohio State as the Big Ten champions. When the time for talking is over and the games start for real, the Buckeyes and Spartans figure to be the ones earning the most attention while Harbaugh goes to work on rebuilding the Wolverines. Ohio State and Michigan State are the two most recent Big Ten champions, and they could again play a de facto Big Ten East title game in November, as they did last season when the Buckeyes topped the Spartans in East Lansing. That came a year after Michigan State upset Ohio State in the (real) Big Ten Championship Game in Indianapolis. Asked about Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer at Big Ten Media Days in Chicago, Dantonio drew some parallels between Ohio State’s 2014 season and the one his team enjoyed a year earlier. “One of the greatest things I can say about a program is when they had problems they were able to overcome those problems and that adversity and it made them stronger along the way,” Dantonio said via Spartan Digest. “I think that’s what won them the national championship. They were ultimately stronger in November than they were at the beginning of the season. “I think that was a result of them getting better and better and not panicking and being able to adjust and move forward — which is what we did in ’13.” (H/T Spartan Digest)
