Couch: Freshman LJ Scott is an MSU milestone

EAST LANSING — LJ Scott is the most interesting player on Michigan State’s football team.

That’s before he even plays a down of college football. Or at least until he plays a down.

Scott is an MSU milestone, the latest in a program that’s enjoyed its share of watershed moments over the last few years. MSU’s heralded freshman running back is the first from the fertile football state of Ohio to truly spurn the Buckeyes for the Spartans in the Mark Dantonio era. Dantonio built a sizable chunk of his program with Ohio kids, all Ohio State leftovers — Le’Veon Bell, Denicos Allen, Connor Cook, Kurtis Drummond, Greg Jones, etc.

MSU freshman offensive lineman Noah Listermann, an Ohio native, also at one point received a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes — inconveniently for this column — though he wasn’t nearly as coveted.
