National college football preview: Countdown to kickoff

Jim Harbaugh has left the NFL for Michigan. Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota have left Florida State and Oregon for the NFL. And nobody of significance has left Ohio State, which means the Buckeyes will look like an NFL team in 2015. Those are just some of the offseason moves that figure to affect  college football. The season gets going Sept. 3 with a lengthy list of openers, featuring South Carolina and North Carolina meeting in Charlotte, Harbaugh’s Michigan debut at Utah, and TCU, one of the preseason favorites to dethrone the defending national champion Buckeyes, playing at Big Ten member Minnesota. Here are some potential storylines and our predictions to ponder before the season kicks off. Our picks to win each FBS conference title. ACC champion: Clemson The Tigers can go as far as their Heisman candidate quarterback Deshaun Watson takes them. Next in line: Florida State American Athletic champion: Cincinnati The Bearcats have issues on defense, but are capable of outscoring most foes on the schedule.
