Ohio State football tops AP poll: Buckeyes first unanimous preseason No. 1 in poll history

After some speculation, the Ohio State football team became the first program in the 65-year history of Associated Press preseason polls to earn a unanimous No. 1 rankings, it was revealed Sunday. The reigning national champion Buckeyes earned all 61 first-place votes in the first top 25 poll released, good for 1,525 points. TCU (1,428 points), Alabama (1,322), Baylor (1,263) and Michigan State (1,256) round out the rest of the top five. Ohio State’s perfect mark tops the previous high of 96.7 percent set by Florida in 2009 and matched four years later in 2013 by Alabama. Last year’s preseason No. 1, Florida State, receiving 95 percent of first-place votes. The Buckeyes opened last preseason No. 5 in the AP poll, before going 12-1 in the regular season and earning the fourth and final seed in the inaugural College Football Playoff, which the won with back-to-back upsets over No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Oregon. …
