Ohio State WR Noah Brown breaks left leg during practice, is done for season

0 Shares Print COLUMBUS, Ohio — The depth at wide receiver for Ohio State has taken another blow heading into the start of its national title defense. Sophomore Noah Brown, expected to be a significant contributor for the Buckeyes and potentially a dangerous weapon as a deep threat, suffered a left leg injury during practice on Wednesday and will undergo season-ending surgery, the team said in a statement.  Ohio State confirmed to ESPN.com that the injury is a broken leg.  The surgery will take place Thursday at the Ohio State University Medical Center, and Brown is expected to make a complete recovery, according to the team.  After Ohio State canceled a media session that was scheduled to include the wide receivers, numerous Buckeyes posted messages on social media in support of Brown, who was widely praised for his work during training camp and identified by Meyer as “top five as far as most improved guys” on the team as recently as Saturday. “On my mind in my prayers,” fellow wide receiver Jalin Marshall posted to Twitter.  On my mind in my prayers ???????? NB get well soon. #80 — Jalin Marshall (@JalinMarshall) August 27, 2015 Marshall will also be missing for at least No. 1 Ohio State’s opener on the road against Virginia Tech, one of three wide receivers or H-backs facing suspension for a violation of team rules, along with Dontre Wilson and Corey Smith. The Buckeyes moved both former Big Ten player of the year Braxton Miller and touted freshman Torrance Gibson from quarterback to wideout to provide depth to one of the few spots on their loaded roster facing some uncertainty early in the season. But Brown was widely expected to be a regular in the rotation, and possibly a starter, after slimming down in the offseason and turning heads both during spring practice and training camp this month. “I would say Noah Brown is probably the most improved receiver right now,” cornerback Eli Apple said Tuesday. “There was a point early in camp where nobody could cover him for a little bit. He was just so physical, really good with his hands and he catches everything.”
