Ohio State Buckeyes have highly rated recruits lined up at WR

Updated Aug 27, 2015 at 11:22a ET Sophomore receiver Noah Brown’s broken leg (suffered at practice Wednesday night) was yet another blow to an Ohio State receiving corps that has had an interesting offseason. The Buckeyes will head to Virginia Tech for their season opener missing not only two regulars from last year who graduated but also Brown, a sophomore who was often the subject of praise from coaches and players in the offseason, and three players who are facing one-game suspensions: Corey Smith, Dontre Wilson and Jalin Marshall. Losing six scholarship players — even if two were regularly scheduled exits — seems like a lot for any program to withstand, but the cupboard is far from bare in Columbus. Ohio State still has eight Scout.com four-star recruits on the roster who are available for the trip to Blacksburg, though the group is very young aside from redshirt junior Michael Thomas, who led Ohio State in catches last season with 54. He gained 799 yards receiving and caught nine touchdown passes and is by far the most accomplished receiver on the roster. The rest of the available pure receivers are all looking for their first college catch, but all were highly regarded high school prospects. James Clark is a third-year sophomore, Johnnie Dixon, Terry McLaurin and Parris Campbell are redshirt freshmen and K.J. Hill and Alex Stump are true freshmen. Then there are three wild cards in the form of Curtis Samuel, Torrance Gibson and Braxton Miller. Samuel was recruited as a slot receiver who could play a hybrid role but ended up being the No. 2 running back last season as a true freshman. …
