Ohio State proved teams can rise up in CFB Playoff poll

What we all tend to forget is the Buckeyes were ranked 16th in the first playoff poll with a 6-1 record. So they rose 12 spots in seven weeks to receive the fourth and final playoff seed. Some teams fell to help Ohio State out, but last season proved you can be off the radar in this playoff format and wind up getting a shot. So when that first playoff poll hits Nov. 3, check the bottom half of it. You just might see one of those teams make the playoff. Guess who was in the top four of that first poll last year? Mississippi State, Florida State, Auburn and Ole Miss. Of the four, only the Seminoles made the playoff. Oregon and Alabama were fifth and sixth, respectively in the poll. So it’s hard to stay in that top four and it’s not bad being on the outskirts of it. …
