‘The Chase’ puts personal spin on Ohio State playoff run

Updated at 5:47 p.m. ET “The Chase” wasn’t what college football expected in 2014.  So it’s fitting a book chronicling Ohio State’s run to the first College Football Playoff championship isn’t what you expect either. Bill Rabinowitz, a sports writer at The Columbus Dispatch since1999, wrote “The Chase: How Ohio State Captured the First College Football Playoff” without focusing solely on quarterbacks Braxton Miller, J.T. Rabinowitz also wrote “Buckeye Rebirth” to chronicle the 2012 season, which also emphasized people more than players.  “It’s not just a football book,” Rabinowitz told Sporting News. “I really wanted to look into the personalities of the people and their stories. It’s much more interesting than, ‘They caught a slant pass on third down.’”  Rabinowitz’s book connects the dots from last year’s championship run, and it features extensive offseason interviews with players, coaches, administrators and family. While it might seem like an impossible task to jam all that into something close to 300 pages; it’s done in a fashion that highlights the many personalities on last year’s national championship team in a fast-paced read.
