FBS coaches pick Ohio State to repeat as national champions

0 Shares Print Ohio State is the FBS coaches’ overwhelming favorite to repeat as national champions. In ESPN’s weekly college football poll #1QFor128, the coaches were asked, before this weekend’s games had been played, to pick the national champion. Ohio State received 58 percent of the votes. TCU was the second-most popular choice, receiving 15 percent, followed by Alabama (10 percent), Clemson (5 percent), Baylor (4 percent), Auburn (3 percent) and LSU (2 percent). Duke, Georgia and Oregon each received 1 percent of the votes. Among the coaches from the Power 5 schools (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC and Pac-12 conferences and Notre Dame), Ohio State was an even bigger favorite, garnering 71 percent of the votes. TCU was next with 18 percent and Alabama 8 percent. Among the coaches from the Group of 5 schools (American, Conference USA, Mid-American, Mountain West and Sun Belt conferences and Army and BYU), Ohio State received 51 percent of the votes. TCU edged Alabama as the second-most popular choice with 14 percent for the Horned Frogs and 12 percent for the Crimson Tide. Auburn was the fourth choice of the Group of 5 schools at 7 percent. Of the 128 FBS coaches, 98 participated in the poll.
