Ohio State Football vs. Virginia Tech: preview and predictions

As most programs kick off their 2015 campaign today it’s finally time for the new season to begin:  college football is back. For the reigning national champions, the title defense doesn’t start until Monday, when the Ohio State football team will travel to Blacksburg, VA to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Backstory Ohio State will come into Monday night’s game hungry for revenge against the only team to best them in 2014 while the Hokies try to prove that their 35-21 victory over the Buckeyes last year was no fluke. Ohio State is without four key players, including All-American defensive end Joey Bosa. H-backs Jalin Marshall and Dontre Wilson and receiver Corey Smith will join Bosa on the sidelines as they serve a one-game suspension for violating athletic department policies. Bosa’s absence will loom large over the Buckeye’s defense as freshman Sam Hubbard looks to fill the void left by the reigning Big Ten defensive player of the year. Meanwhile, newly minted receivers Braxton Miller and Torrance Gibson will join Michael Thomas out wide without the dynamic talents of Jalin Marshall or established receiving skills of Corey Smith. While Thomas is seen as one of the best receivers in the Big Ten, the Buckeyes have more than a few questions about the depth and abilities of their receivers. On the other sideline, the Hokies’ head coach Frank Beamer has plenty to figure out concerning the Buckeyes’ quarterback situation.
