Bret Bielema takes shot at Ohio State schedule, says SEC on ‘other level’

There’s a chance that after last year’s controversy surrounding Ohio State grabbing the final College Football Playoff spot, you’re already tired of hearing about the Buckeyes’ strength-of-schedule, or lack thereof. Or at least that’s the evidence from Wednesday’s SEC coaches teleconference, where Bret Bielema had something to say about the lack of ranked opponents on the Buckeyes’ slate. Bielema’s comments come less than two weeks after Steve Spurrier said SEC were “rightfully” upset about the weakness of the defending national champions’ schedule. “Ohio State has one remaining game with a ranked opponent,” Bielema said, per Cleveland.com. “We have eight remaining against teams who are ranked … If anyone tries to argue that, it’s nonsense.” Bielema’s jab comes in the wake of the AP including a record 10 teams in its Top 25 this week, including the entirety of the SEC West. He added that the SEC is on a “whole other level” when it comes to competitive balance. Of course, in the past Bielema hasn’t needed much of an excuse to take a verbal shot at Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes, dating back to his time at Wisconsin.
