Buckeyes find ways to utilize all talent

BLACKSBURG, Va. — How do you keep Ohio State’s three star quarterbacks happy?

If you are Urban Meyer, you play them all.

The top-ranked Buckeyes’ 42-24 licking of Virginia Tech on Monday night offered an expert blueprint for deploying their luxury of riches.

Cardale Jones started at quarterback, Braxton Miller got the save at receiver, and — just for good measure — a big lead allowed J.T. Barrett to join in with a coup-de-grace 26-yard touchdown pass.

After scaring up 572 yards against one of the nation’s top defenses at head-pounding Lane Stadium, the Buckeyes will welcome back three of their top receivers for Saturday’s home opener against Hawaii. They are 40.5-point favorites.

“We were missing three guys on offense that can change the game,” said Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott, referring to Jalin Marshall, Corey Smith, and Dontre Wilson, who along with defensive end Joey Bosa were suspended for the trip. “It’s just crazy thinking that. We have so much to improve on and I think that’s just a scary, scary thing. We could be very dominant.”

Yes, they could.

Ohio State left this college town in the Appalachian Mountains just as it came — perched atop college football — except with a dangerous new toy.
