Big, bad B1G: Big Ten has top two teams in new AP poll

A conference that was a national punchline as recently as last fall now has the top two teams in the country, at least according to the newest Associated Press Top 25. Ohio State stayed at No. 1 after its close call against Northern Illinois, while Michigan State moved up two spots to occupy the No. 2 ranking. (The Buckeyes are also first in the coaches’ poll, with the Spartans checking in at No. 3.) Michigan State received seven first-place votes this week in the AP poll, still far short of Ohio State’s 42 but enough to show that respect for Mark Dantonio’s team is rising. It’s the first time the Big Ten has had the top two teams in the rankings since late November 2006, when Ohio State and Michigan played as No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
