College Football Player of the Week: Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott

Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott put on a show against Indiana on Saturday, and the Buckeyes needed every bit of his 274 yards and three touchdowns on the ground to pull out a 34-27 victory. Elliott averaged 11.91 yards on 23 carries against the Hoosiers, while the rest of the Buckeyes had 11 carries for -2 yards. His three touchdowns all came at crucial times for Ohio State in the second half. His first touchdown was on a 55-yard run early in the third quarter that gave OSU its first lead at 13-10. After Ohio State gave up an Indiana touchdown, Elliott got right back to it, breaking free for a 65-yard touchdown run to put the Buckeyes up 20-17. His third and final touchdown was a 75-yard run that came after Indiana had closed the Ohio State lead down to just seven points and would be the deciding points to keep OSU undefeated. Elliott’s performance on Saturday vaulted him up to sixth in the nation in rushing yards per game at 145.8, and his eight touchdowns are good enough for eighth in the country. With the quarterback situation in Columbus surprisingly shaky, the Buckeyes will need Elliott even more than most anticipated coming into the season.
