Maryland: Randy Edsall will coach against Ohio State

Maryland released a statement Thursday seemingly in response to a report of head coach Randy Edsall’s pending firing. “Randy Edsall is our head football coach & he’ll be on the sidelines Saturday against Ohio State,” the school said in a statement. A report from InsideMDSports.com indicated that Maryland was expected to fire Edsall after the Terrapins’ game against No. 1 Ohio State, barring “an unexpected last-minute reversal.” Maryland is 2–3 and will enter its bye week after taking on the Buckeyes. The team’s poor start has reportedly turned off fans and boosters, and the athletic department would take the financial hit to save face and cut its losses. Yahoo’s Pat Forde confirmed that “Maryland intends to fire” Edsall, but reports that the timing of his dismissal has yet to be determined.  Edsall signed a three-year contract extension in June, with only $500,000 out of $7.5 million guaranteed. He is in the final two years of his original six-year deal worth $10 million.
