A tale of two teams: How the Terps stack up against Ohio State

On paper, the No. 1 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes (5-0) are very different than the Maryland Terrapins (2-3). But when you dig a little deeper, a different story emerges: They are very, very, very, very different. Take a look at some of the numbers that show just how wide the gap is between these two Big Ten schools, both in the past and present. Ohio State’s football program has had 868 wins since it started in 1890. Maryland’s program started two years later – but it has had only 620 victories. For two universities that essentially started competing at the same time, a 248-win difference is sizeable. The Buckeyes have eight national titles. In comparison, the Terps won one national title in 1953. Ohio State has seen seven of its players win the Heisman Trophy, which is tied for the most in college football history.
