(Getty Images)Turmoil surrounding Randy Edsall Maryland is considering firing the embattled fifth-year coach, and while a timetable hasn’t been set, Saturday’s game could be the last of his tenure. Maryland enters the game as a 34-point underdog. It has failed to cover the spread the last two weeks in blowout losses to West Virginia and Michigan, losing by a combined 73-6. Edsall wasn’t defiant or combative when asked about his job status this week but deflected all questions on the matter, including on Thursday. “My whole focus and concern is working with our student-athletes to making them the best people, the best students, the best athletes that they can be,” Edsall said. “That’s all I’m worried about. But Hills, who started the first two games of the season, might be the safest bet. Redshirt junior Caleb Rowe has thrown 12 interceptions in four games this season, while Daxx Garman has struggled getting rid of the ball (five sacks in 23 drop-backs) and is only completing 33.3 percent of his passes. Maryland offensive coordinator Mike Locksley said earlier this week that ball-security is the foremost priority, and while Hills doesn’t have the strongest arm of the trio, he’s only thrown two picks this season and is the best running threat under center.
