Ohio State hosts Maryland today

Ohio State will host Maryland Saturday at noon in a matchup of Big Ten East Division rivals at Ohio Stadium. The Buckeyes (5-0, 1-0) opened conference play with a 34-27 road win over the Indiana Hoosiers last week. The Terrapins (2-3, 0-1) lost 28-0 at home to the Michigan Wolverines. While it appears Ohio State is an overwhelming favorite for the sixth straight game, head coach Urban Meyer isn’t taking anything for granted, especially since the Buckeyes struggled in all five previous contests. “It’s just efficiency,” said Meyer when asked to explain the slow starts at his weekly press conference. “And making things happen and someone creating a big play.” Meyer noted Michigan also struggled against Maryland, leading only 6-0 at halftime. “They (Maryland) play really hard and have exceptional athletes on defense,” he added. The Terrapins also have a playmaker on special teams. Junior cornerback William Likely, who stands 5-foot-7, is averaging 24 yards on 15 punt returns, taking two back for touchdowns. “The punt returner is one of the best in the nation and we have to make sure we get him to the ground.” Maryland, however, is ranked 111th offensively.
