AP Top 25: Baylor closing gap with No. 1 Ohio State; SEC has 4 of top 10

Even as first-place votes are redistributed elsewhere, Ohio State has kept its hold on the No. 1 spot in the Associated Press Top 25. The Buckeyes pulled away late against Maryland in a game that was much closer than the 49-28 final suggests. The result in the AP Top 25 was more momentum for Baylor, which jumped TCU for the No. 2 spot and now has 13 first-place votes. Only Utah, with 16 first-place votes but sitting at No. 4, also seems to be in position to overtake Ohio State for the top spot. Alabama was in trouble against Arkansas, trailing 7-3 in the third quarter, before Jake Coker rebounded from a rough start and led the Tide to a 27-14 win. That victory kept Nick Saban’s group in the top 10 (though down two spots to No. 10) along with LSU, Florida and Texas A&M, giving the SEC four teams in the top 10, though none in the top five.
