Buckeyes’ Barrett proud of arm strength, patience

COLUMBUS, Ohio — J.T. Barrett’s back in one of the most high profile positions in college football. But Barrett had to practice patience in earning back his starting QB role at Ohio State. “It’s not the ideal situation after starting last year… but in my case it was on me, I didn’t play to what I’m capable of playing.” Barrett said Wednesday night following practice. “I think being a quarterback we have this personal thing ‘this is my team’… I just tried to focus on myself on what I could do to get better and from there I got better as a person, first, and then as a football player as well.” Barrett spoke with reporters about how his battle for the job with Cardale Jones has shaped OSU’s season. Barrett also carried some frustration about what he called media criticism of his arm strength, especially in comparison to Jones. “It’s like… since I’m not 6’5 and 250 I don’t have a strong arm… I don’t know what that was about.” he said. “I wanted to say that for a long time… I threw deep balls the whole year.” Barrett cited his performance at Michigan State last season for examples of his deep-passing abilities. “I might get the ball out earlier since my arm is not as strong, and maybe Cardale might get it out later… but it wasn’t anything different.” Here’s video from Barrett’s interview Wednesday night.
