Big Ten well-placed in first College Football Playoff rankings

The Pac-12 got no love. Alabama and Notre Dame got plenty of affection. The Big Ten? Right where it should be. Ohio State is ranked third in the College Football Playoff initial rankings with Michigan State seventh and Iowa ninth. The Buckeyes and Spartans play a rigorous enough schedule down the stretch — namely because they play each other — that they don’t have to worry about rising/remaining in the top four. Win out, and they are guaranteed to go to the playoff. With Iowa, there’s a smidge of concern because a one-loss Notre Dame is ranked fifth — far ahead of the Hawkeyes — and the Irish could get the nod by winning out.
