Woody Hayes play coming to Majestic

A one-man play, focusing on the life of former Ohio State football coach Woody Hayes, will be featured at the Majestic Theatre on Friday.(Photo: Submitted photo) CHILLICOTHE –  Admittedly, fall is usually a relaxing time for the Scioto Society — but this year, things are different. The organization is still up and running full speed as it presents “Woody: His Life, Times, and Teachings” at the Majestic Theatre Friday night. “People are usually taking vacations around this time,” Brandon Smith, CEO of the Scioto Society said. As part of the society’s effort to collaborate with other organizations in the community, Smith said having this show at the Majestic, and splitting the proceeds with them, is one way they are continuing those efforts. The show premiered in Columbus in 2011, but the idea to present “Woody: His Life, Times, and Teachings,” now came after Smith noticed it on the Ohio Arts Present Network. The one-man play centers around Woody Hayes, who became coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes football team in 1951, where he stood at the helm for 28 seasons. During that time, the Buckeyes won multiple national and conference titles. “I love one-man shows,” Smith said. “It’s a really incredible art form in that you’re not relying on big, flashy production. … It’s about as pure as theater gets.” Walter Adamkosky, who wrote the play, wanted to tell the personal story of Hayes from the perspective of the coach himself…
