Mark Dantonio: ‘great challenge …. great opportunity’ for MSU at Ohio State

EAST LANSING — All the chips are pushed into the middle of the table as Michigan State’s football season is on the line Saturday in Columbus against Ohio State. “I think everybody understands we’re in a playoff-type situation here and that we need to win this football game,” MSU coach Mark Dantonio said on his Sunday teleconference. “There’s a great challenge down in Columbus waiting for us, but there’s also great opportunity.” The No. 9-ranked Spartans (9-1, 5-1) play No. 2-ranked Ohio State (10-0, 6-0) at 3:30 p.m. (TV: ABC) Saturday. ESPN’s College GameDay will broadcast from Columbus leading up to the game. The Buckeyes are a 13-point favorite and are riding an NCAA-record conference win streak of 30 games entering the contest. Dantonio was asked about the health of MSU quarterback Connor Cook, who was held out of the second half of the Spartans’ 24-7 win over Maryland. He indicated that Cook is not injured, but he would not elaborate. Michigan State has won in every Big Ten stadium since the Spartans’ fifth-year seniors signed in February 2011, but none of the current players have actually played a game at Ohio Stadium. Ohio State is 27-1 under coach Urban Meyer at Ohio Stadium and has not lost a regular-season game to a Big Ten team in his tenure. …
