Recruited hard by Ohio State, LJ Scott beats the Buckeyes in Michigan State uniform

COLUMBUS, Ohio — LJ Scott was supposed to be wearing a scarlet and gray uniform on Saturday night. That was the assumption from many, at least, when Ohio State started showing strong recruiting interest in the talented running back from Hubbard, Ohio. Under Urban Meyer, when the Buckeyes make a strong pitch for an in-state prospect, they’ve rarely missed. “They were always big on me and recruiting and everything, so everybody just thought they had it,” Scott said. Instead, Scott was wearing a green and white uniform Saturday night. And the freshman played a critical role late in No. 9 Michigan State’s 17-14 upset win over No. 2 Ohio State. And in doing so, Scott turned Michigan State’s biggest recruiting coup of the class of 2015 into immediate results in the biggest game of the season to date. On Michigan State’s second-to-last drive, Scott took the handoff at his own 4-yard-line and went for 20 yards on his first carry, perhaps the biggest single run of the game. He ended up with 33 yards on a drive that resulted in a Michigan State punt but was critical in helping flip the field position.
