Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott has apologized for inflammatory statements regarding the Buckeyes’ play-calling in its 17-14 loss to Michigan State on Saturday. Elliott rushed for just 33 yards on 12 carries as the Buckeyes saw their 23-game winning streak snapped. He said after the game that the coaching staff “didn’t put us in position to win” by not calling his number more often and that “there’s no way I’m coming back next year.” Elliott apologized Monday via Twitter: “I am sorry for all those offended by the statements made by me Saturday after OUR loss,” Elliott wrote, in part. “My intentions were not to point fingers at anyone for OUR failure. I was caught up in emotions. “I hope everyone understands how strongly I love this team and this university and how much I wanted to win that game but I do not regret anything I said.” Elliott, a junior, was considered a lock to enter the NFL draft even before the Michigan State loss. Most early mock drafts have him listed as the top running back prospect for the draft and a candidate to be selected in the first round. “I agree that it was the wrong time and place to say that I was going to leave after this year,” Elliott wrote. “But I am not leaving after this season because we lost that game.
