Kyle Kalis, Michigan’s fourth-year junior guard, said he’d heard about Harbaugh’s guarantee over Ohio State in 1986. “It didn’t work out the way he wanted,” Kalis began … Wait, Kyle. Yes, it did. “Oh, it did? They did win?” Kalis backpedaled with a laugh. “Well … good job, coach.” No one on Michigan’s roster was alive for Harbaugh’s guaranteed victory over the Buckeyes in ’86. And no one dared to attempt a repeat this week. Asked what might happen if someone in today’s locker room tried the same thing, Kalis estimated that they’d be in Harbaugh’s office for a stern conversation almost immediately afterward.
