Michigan-Ohio State draws second-highest college football TV ratings of 2015

ANN ARBOR — Michigan’s disappointing showing in a 42-13 loss to Ohio State was seen well beyond the season-high 111,829 attendance at Michigan Stadium. According to a Sunday ESPN release, The Game drew a 7.8 overnight rating, making it the highest-rated game of the college football weekend and the second-highest overnight rating of the season across all networks. It was also the highest-rated noon college football game ever since records began in 2004. The only game to draw a higher overnight rating in 2015 is Ohio State’s home game against Michigan State last weekend. The Spartans’ 17-14 upest victory scored a 7.0 rating. That game stands as the highest-rated 3:30 p.m. game on ABC since the 2006 game between Michigan and Ohio State. Ratings for Saturday’s game between Michigan and Ohio State were up 24 percent from last year’s game (5.5 overnight), which was also played at noon. Since 2004, it’s the second-highest rated Michigan-Ohio State game on ABC, trailing only the 2006 game when the Buckeyes and Wolverines were ranked No.1 and No. 2 in the country. The overall rating of Saturday’s game was likely dampened by the Buckeyes’ loss in that aforementioned game versus Michigan State, which essentially took a trip to the Big Ten championship off the table for Michigan-Ohio State.
