Ohio State Football’s postseason hopes are still alive

After a dominating 42-13 win over rival Michigan, the Ohio State Buckeyes stand 11-1 and now await the results of next weekend’s championship game matchups to see what bowl game they might land. Last weekend’s crushing 14-17 loss at the hands of Michigan State seemed to put an end to their playoff ambitions, but there are still a few scenarios that have Buckeye fans cautiously optimistic that their team could sneak back into contention. Hope lies with the Gators Jim McElwain and the Florida Gators will have to defeat the Crimson Tide next weekend for the Buckeyes to have any chance at a spot in the playoffs.Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports Three of the four playoff spots are all but locked up at this point, leaving one potential opening for a team like Ohio State to claim. Next week’s Big Ten Championship matchup between the undefeated Iowa Hawkeyes and one-loss Michigan State Spartans will surely decide at least one spot. The same can be said for the ACC Championship matchup between Clemson and North Carolina. An undefeated Clemson team would surely claim the top seed, but the Tar Heels are 11-0 since their opening week loss and a win over the country’s top team would likely propel them into the playoff picture. No. 3 Oklahoma impressed with a 58-23 victory over Oklahoma State and seems to have guaranteed themselves a top-four spot as the best team in the Big 12. So that’s three, which leaves just one potential spot for Ohio State to steal away from the SEC should Florida manage to down No. 2 Alabama. Florida already has two losses (including yesterday’s lopsided loss to rival Florida State) and should they hand the Crimson Tide their second blemish of the year, the SEC could be left out of the playoff picture entirely. At this point, any remaining hope for Ohio State football lies in the hands of the Gators. …
