0 Shares print The weekend that was in the Big Ten showcased the very best of the league — all but locking it into the College Football Playoff — before the events of Sunday exposed the ugly underbelly of the conference as firing season hit stride. No. 4 Iowa completed its first perfect regular season in 93 years with a 28-20 victory at Nebraska on Friday. On Saturday, fifth-ranked Michigan State blasted Penn State 55-16 to earn a meeting with the Hawkeyes this week in the Big Ten championship game, a near-certain play-in game for the playoff. Also Saturday, No. 8 Ohio State played its best game of the season in a 42-13 rout of No. 10 Michigan at the Big House. Elsewhere, Northwestern reached 10 wins, Wisconsin extended its grip to 12 years on Paul Bunyan’s Axe, Indiana achieved bowl eligibility for the first time since 2007 and Maryland beat Rutgers. And then came Bloody Sunday, headlined by the firings at Rutgers of athletic director Julie Hermann after a three-year disaster and coach Kyle Flood.
