Eye on Tonight’s CFP Rankings

The new College Football Playoff rankings come out tonight on ESPN at 6PM eastern.  Here are some things to think about in advance of the reveal.-I believe Iowa and Michigan State will occupy the 4th and 5th ranking positions.  There is a chance Michigan State jumps Iowa to 4th, but that doesn’t matter. -Ohio State should be sitting at 6th, which gives the Big Ten hope for two teams in the playoff, as the Iowa/MSU winner will most certainly get in. WHAT ABOUT NUMBER SEVEN?:  This is the key spot.  If you see North Carolina moving into this spot tonight, that is a concern for Hawkeye and Spartan fans who want to see the loser of the Big Ten title game play in the Rose Bowl. North Carolina was ranked 14th in last week’s poll.  Michigan, Baylor, Florida, Oklahoma State and Notre Dame were all ranked ahead of North Carolina last week, and lost. I do not believe a two-loss Stanford team would jump Ohio State for the fourth spot, even if Stanford beats USC this weekend to claim the Pac12 title. The only team I can see doing that would be North Carolina. For that to happen, North Carolina would have to beat Clemson this coming Saturday, and I don’t think that is a stretch. …
