Ohio State, North Carolina need chaos to crack College Football Playoff

This college football season has given us wild endings (The Big House Blunder), dominant performances (Derrick Henry rushed HOW MANY times against Auburn?) and a lot of head coach firings. What it hasn’t provided is the chaos needed to shake up the College Football Playoff rankings. As expected, the top five teams are unchanged: Clemson, Alabama, Oklahoma, Iowa and Michigan State. Here are four things we learned — or did not learn — from Tuesday night’s release of the next-to-last batch of rankings. (The final four will be revealed at 11 a.m. Sunday on ESPN.) 1. North Carolina fans should be blue. Tar Heels advocates view the team as this year’s potential Ohio State, which surged into the top four in 2014 by pummeling Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship game. North Carolina will get its chance Saturday, but even a solid victory over Clemson in the ACC title game might not be enough. The Tar Heels are ranked 10th, behind three two-loss teams. …
