Rutgers reportedly targeting another Ohio State assistant for head coaching job

If you can’t beat them, raid their coaching staff. That seems to be the approach Rutgers is taking as its coaching search picks up steam. After getting pounded by Ohio State in each of the past two seasons, Rutgers is reportedly targeting two Buckeyes coordinators for its head coaching vacancy. Fox Sports reported earlier Wednesday that Ohio State defensive coordinator Chris Ash is being eyed by Rutgers. Rutgers has also expressed interest in Ohio State offensive coordinator Ed Warinner, according to a report by Cleveland.com. As these reports surfaced, sources told NJ Advance Media that former Miami coach Al Golden has emerged as a favorite for the Rutgers job. Rutgers has been searching for a head coach since firing Kyle Flood on Sunday. New athletic director Pat Hobbs has declined to provide updates on the coaching search. Warinner, 54, has 32 years of experience but has never been a head coach. He has been an assistant at eight different schools: Ohio State, Notre Dame, Kansas, Illinois, Air Force, Army, Michigan State and Akron. Warinner was hired by Ohio State in 2012 when Urban Meyer took over as head coach. Warinner was the offensive line coach/co-offensive coordinator in his first three seasons at Ohio State. …
