Maryland loses two 4-Star commits to Ohio State, Buckeyes now No. 1 in Country

David Lake, 247Sports After announcing former Michigan defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin as new Terrapins’ head coach, Maryland experienced a slight boost in recruiting momentum. Durkin has a track record of establishing stingy defenses from his time at Michigan to Florida, and Maryland should see improved defensive play in the future as a result. Despite the momentary buzz surrounding the Terps’ program, Durkin was unable to hold onto two key commitments, though. Both prospects flipped their pledges to Ohio State on Monday. Quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr. committed to Maryland last May, and the 4-star prospect has operated as a vocal leader of Maryland’s 2016 recruiting class. In the past, Haskins has helped promote the D.M.V. Movement, which is a plan for the top talent in the Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia to play college football for the Terrapins, and several other regional recruits considered Maryland as a result.
