Post-game analysis from a Wisconsin Badgers victory The Wisconsin basketball team extended its winning streak to five games last night with a 79-68 victory over Ohio State. My prediction of a 69-63 or 68-62 win beats Ken Pomeroy’s 64-60 prediction, this time around, even if neither of us saw the recreation of last-season’s Badger offense that we witnessed in the game. Related Story: Badgers Extend Win Streak to 5 Games The win vaulted the Badgers to #47 in the Ken Pomeroy rankings, which is a meaningful improvement from their nadir at #63, just two short weeks ago. This move drastically improves the Badgers chances of extending their bigger streak of 17 straight NCAA tournament bids, which is tied for 4th best in the country. Looking at the average of the last 14 years, a Pomeroy ranking in the 61-70 range gives a team a 28% chance of making the tournament. Moving to the 41-50 range, like the Badgers have, improves those odds to 65%. The Badgers have more than doubled their chances of making the tournament in the last couple weeks.  If the Badgers can get into the 30’s, they will be a lock for a bid. To get to this point, the Badgers went very much against form versus Ohio State, throwing up and making three-pointers at a wholly unexpected rate.  I predicted the Badgers to shoot 34% from three, but they scorched the nets at 48%.
