COLUMBUS — An Ohio State athletic department official confirmed to ABC-6/FOX-28 Monday that freshman center Daniel Giddens has asked for a release from his basketball scholarship. ESPN.com first reported Giddens intends to transfer. The four-star prospect averaged 3 points and 3 rebounds per game this season and backed up Trevor Thompson who has indicated he’ll test NBA waters. Thompson has not retained an agent which would allow him to return to the Buckeyes next season. Earlier in the season, freshman guard Austin Grandstaff announced his transfer to Oklahoma.
