Andre Wesson didn’t wear an Ohio State shirt to school Wednesday. Although he had called coach Thad Matta on Tuesday night and let him know that he was accepting a scholarship offer to become a Buckeye, the Westerville South senior didn’t want anyone outside his immediate family to know where he was going to sign to play college basketball. >> Follow  BuckeyeXtra  on  Facebook  and  Twitter When Wesson, the 14th of 14 Wildcats signing national letters of intent onstage in the school’s auditorium, unzipped his jacket to reveal a scarlet Ohio State shirt, the room erupted in applause. His younger brother, Kaleb, seated on the stairs to his left, leaped to his feet, yelled, ‘Yes, sir!’ and bolted out of the auditorium. Wesson’s father, Keith, had brought Andre a change of clothes once school ended. The elder Wesson played for Ohio State from 1983-87. Kaleb has committed to Ohio State’s 2017 recruiting class. Now Andre, a senior, will be a part of the program this fall. ‘I wanted to be part of the program because I know what it’s like to play at Ohio State,’ Andre said. ‘I know what it means to be a Buckeye and I want to play for Ohio State and take them to the next level and win a national championship there.’ The 6-foot-6, 190-pound Wesson helped lead Westerville South to a state title as a senior. A second-team all-Ohio honoree, he averaged 17 points, six rebounds and three assists per game while playing himself into a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes in mid-March. Wesson had been heavily recruited by Richmond for a long time and had narrowed his list to the Spiders, the Buckeyes and Butler. Wesson said he didn’t feel pressure to choose his hometown school. Kaleb and Keith said the two didn’t discuss it, and the junior said he went out of his way to avoid finding out where his older brother was announcing.
