NFL draft could be record-setting recruiting tool for Ohio State

This week’s NFL draft could potentially include 16 Ohio State players selected from coach Urban Meyer’s program.  12:38 PM ET COLUMBUS, Ohio — The calling of one name after another from the same program should drive the point home. The appearance of the head coach and a handful of assistants who helped build those first-round picks will double down and keep beaming the message into living rooms across the country. And for those Ohio State staff members not appearing on television, they will hammer home the same point in person as they hit the road recruiting with a powerful, newly improved tool at their disposal. Urban Meyer refers to it as the difference between theory and testimony, a message that will be unavoidable as a potential record-setting haul of prospects developed at Ohio State come off the board at the NFL draft. Though Meyer might be able to crack some jokes about how useful the next three nights are to him with all that talent no longer available to him, there is no question he won’t hesitate to use it as part of an ongoing effort to keep that pipeline to the pros flowing. “Valuable for us? Oh, there’s no value at all to us — they’re all gone,” Meyer said with a smile. “I think we’re actually going to have someone there who will track guys [on social media], and absolutely we are going to use that for recruiting. “We’re pretty creative around here, and I don’t even know what all they’re going to do.” Perhaps it’s not by coincidence that Ohio State finally unveiled a Twitter account dedicated solely to the football program this week, and it’s already been loaded up with behind-the-scenes access to the five players in Chicago for the opening round. …
