Ohio State’s Taylor Decker willing to adapt

Rebilas, Custom) Ohio State Buckeyes offensive lineman Taylor Decker spent the last two years entrenched at left tackle for a championship-caliber team. Mentioned as possibly being switched to right tackle at the professional level, Decker addressed the rumors during his press conference at the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. “Of course, I want to be a left tackle, but at the end of the day, I just want to play football and compete, so if a team asks me to play another position, absolutely I would because I want to be an asset to whatever team that gets me,” Decker said. The tallest offensive lineman at the Combine, the 6-foot-7 Decker plans to use his height as an advantage, despite knowing the importance of getting lower than defenders to better protect the quarterback and clear holes for running backs, especially with the increased level of competition at the NFL level. “Football’s a game of leverage, and I have to bend more to get lower and have some more flexibility,” Decker said. “It’s not something that I think I’ve struggled with mightily, and then, at the same time, generally, you have longer limbs, so you can create more leverage and guys can’t get to your chest, get to your body. It can be a good thing or a bad thing, but I don’t think it’s something that’s served me poorly in my career. “I’ve heard from some guys I’ve played with in college who have moved onto the next level that the style of play is a lot different, but at the same time, it’s still football. I think the biggest challenge is probably going to be although I played some really good players, I’m going to see the best players I’m ever going to see every, single week, so there’s no room for error. “You can’t have an off game or a couple bad plays, because as an offensive lineman, a couple bad plays means a bad game, so you’ve got to be consistent. …
