Banner day at NFL Draft for former Ohio State Buckeyes

(Photo: Jerry Lai, Custom) CLEVELAND — The first round of the 2016 NFL Draft was very, very good to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Five former Buckeyes, defensive lineman Joey Bosa, running back Ezekiel Elliott, cornerback Eli Apple, offensive lineman Taylor Decker and linebacker Darron Lee, were all selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, and 10 more of their former teammates could come off the board before the end of the weekend. BOSA FIRST OFF THE BOARD The San Diego Chargers selected Bosa with the No. 3 overall pick. Since an impactful sophomore season in 2014, the 6-foot-6, 275-pound edge rusher has been mentioned as a top pick in the 2016 NFL Draft because of his ability to collapse opposing pockets and be a disruptive force at the line of scrimmage. Bosa finished his three-year Ohio State career with 26 sacks, including a career-best 13.5 in 2014, a year in which he anchored a defensive unit that led the Buckeyes to the National Championship. During his sophomore season, Bosa had at least 1.5 sacks in six different games. ELLIOTT HEADS TO BIG D Just one pick after Bosa went to the Chargers, Elliott got his name called by the Dallas Cowboys with the No. 4 overall pick.
