NFL Draft’s 1st round turns into Ohio State tribute

Among the mysteries of the NFL Draft on Thursday night, football fans came away wondering: How did Ohio State not win another national championship last season?Three of the top 10 and five of the first 20 players selected were Buckeyes. Only the 2003 Miami Hurricanes had a better performance with six players taken in the first round. San Diego started the run on Buckeyes, grabbing defensive end Joey Bosa with the No. 3 pick after, predictably, quarterbacks Jared Goff (L.A. Rams) and Carson Wentz (Philadelphia) went 1-2. Dallas was feeling Scarlet & Gray at No. 4, too, selecting running back Ezekiel Elliott. Some consider Elliott the best overall prospect at his position since Adrian Peterson. The rest of the Buckeyes roll call: cornerback Eli Apple to the Giants at 10, offensive tackle Taylor Decker to the Lions at 16 and outside linebacker Darron Lee to the Jets at 20. National champ Alabama had only one player taken: center Ryan Kelly, who went 18th to the Colts. Texas A&M extended an impressive streak, squeezing out a first-round selection for the sixth consecutive year when Seattle made offensive tackle Germain Ifedi the final pick of the night. …
