Ohio State born and bred, new Detroit Lion Taylor Decker embraces move to Michigan

ALLEN PARK — Taylor Decker is born and bred scarlet and gray. But the three-year Ohio State starter’s new residence will be in enemy territory. And the first-round pick of the Detroit Lions is embracing the move to Michigan. “Yeah, I mean, playing there, I obviously have seen the state of Michigan is very passionate about football,” Decker said. “I have a lot of respect for that. So, I’m looking forward to being up here around a passionate fan base, people who love football. If you play football, you love that and you’ll gravitate towards it.” Born and raised in Vandalia, Ohio, an hour west of Columbus, Decker grew up a Buckeyes fan. But as a four-star high school recruit, he drew little interest from the school. He was reportedly viewed as a poor fit by then-offensive coordinator Jim Bollman. Decker verbally committed to Notre Dame, but when Urban Meyer took over at Ohio State in 2012, the offensive tackle prospect made a call to the coach to gauge interest.
