Ohio State players go early, often in 1st round of NFL draft

It was an epic night for the Shrug, the Crop-top, the Chef and The Ohio State University. A Buckeyes core that produced 50 victories also gave the 2016 NFL draft its first two non-quarterbacks: Defensive end Joey Bosa went third to the Chargers and running back Ezekiel Elliott got snapped up minutes later by the Cowboys. Cornerback Eli Apple also went higher than some expected, No. 10 to the Giants. Bosa was stunned to go third, saying: “I thought I’d be in there for at least 30-45 more minutes.” The pundits erred in figuring that his meandering 40-yard dash time of 4.86 seconds would slow his roll. Bosa certainly didn’t fall in the eyes of Ohio State coach Urban Meyer, who on Monday called him “the best football player top to bottom I think I have ever coached. He is in the Percy Harvin, Mike and Maurkice Pouncey group, elite players so good at their trade. I’m not even sure what he ran, but he is fast enough to get to the quarterback and disrupt the game.” Bosa gained acclaim by registering 131/2 sacks as a sophomore, celebrating some with a shrug that even President Obama mimicked during a White House visit. Asked if he’ll bring it to the West Coast, he replied: “I think I’ve got to.
