Hot Reads: A Date with the Night

Photo by Daniel James Murphy, Hail VarsityESPN released a portion of its primetime college football schedule yesterday and two of the Huskers’ three biggest conference games will be under the lights. Nebraska will face Wisconsin and Ohio State at night in back-to-back weeks at the end of October. That’s still good news for fans, I think. Night games just feel bigger, particularly conference night games. Sure, there are some who will never enjoy being at a stadium until 10 p.m. on Saturday, but that number is mitigated at least somewhat in this case because both games are on the road. Plenty of Husker fans will go, of course, but when you’re on the road you’re already dealing with hotel rooms and atypical schedules. But for those watching from Nebraska, what’s not to like? You get an entire Saturday to do with as you wish — I recommend watching more college football, but that’s me — and then important-feeling football on a crisp autumn night. I’m not sure this scheduling made Nebraska’s job any easier, however. Beating Ohio State in Columbus was always going to be tough. …
