Roundtable: Which current B1G player could eventually make an all-time list?

12:34 PM ET As part of an ongoing series this week, we’re looking at the Big Ten’s top-5 all-time players at each position. So we asked our Big Ten writers to spin it forward: Which current player has the potential to one day make one of these top-5 lists? Here’s what they said: Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett Barrett enters the 2016 season as a frontrunner to win the Heisman Trophy — something Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer made clear must be the case for any Ohio State quarterback. If Barrett can follow through on that lofty expectation, he would certainly have to be considered among the greatest quarterbacks in Big Ten history. The only other OSU quarterback to win the Heisman was Troy Smith in 2006. (Former Ohio State great Lee Horvath won the award in 1944 as a QB/halfback but mostly played halfback.) Barrett already established himself as a truly special player during his freshman season in 2014 when he was named the Big Ten quarterback of the year, set 19 school and Big Ten records and finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting. Barrett’s ankle injury set him back and created a QB competition last season with Cardale Jones, so his in-game reps took a dip. But he still led the team in touchdown passes and was second in rushing touchdowns. With Jones off to the NFL, this is Barrett’s team again…
