Alabama men’s basketball snags transfer from Ohio State

TUSCALOOSA | The University of Alabama men’s basketball program added its second key transfer of the late signing period as 6-foot-10 Daniel Giddens announced that he would enroll at Alabama after beginning his career at Ohio State.Giddens chose the Crimson Tide over Georgia, TCU and Pittsburgh as his transfer destination. He was in Tuscaloosa this weekend on an official visit, his second trip to UA during the recruitment process.Giddens announced his decision Sunday on his Twitter account.”I want to say thank you to coach Thad Matta and his entire Ohio State University basketball staff from this past year. Thank you for the opportunity that allowed me to participate in your basketball program and to attend such a highly respected academic institution,” Giddens said on Twitter.”After much thought and prayer I have decided to attend the University of Alabama. RTR.”Giddens was a four-star recruit coming out of prep school at Oak Hill (Va.) Academy and was the No. 59 recruit nationally in 2016 per ESPN. He chose Ohio State over Indiana, Florida, Georgia and Marquette, among other schools.A native of Mableton, Ga., Giddens averaged 18.2 minutes for the Buckeyes, and averaged 3.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. One of Giddens’ top performances as a Buckeye came against Florida in the NIT, as he scored 11 points, claimed six rebounds and added three blocked shots.
