Alabama officially adds prominent basketball transfer

Alabama announced the addition of former top-50 recruit Daniel Giddens on Tuesday. Giddens, a 6-foot-10, 230-pound center/forward, spent his freshman season last year at Ohio State. He announced Sunday that he’s transferring to Alabama, giving the Tide a young big man who was the No. 8 center and No. 49 overall prospect in last year’s recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Giddens will have to sit out next season under NCAA transfer rules, but has three years of eligibility remaining. The Georgia native averaged 3.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks while playing 18.2 minutes per game as a freshman at Ohio State last season. “We are pleased to welcome Daniel to the University of Alabama men’s basketball family,” Alabama coach Avery Johnson said in a statement. “We’re excited to add someone who has great character and a high competitive spirit. He will sit out a year in which he can learn more about our system while also expanding his game on the court.
