Is point guard a concern for Michigan State basketball?

None of the seven players that the Michigan State Spartan basketball team lost this offseason were listed at point guard. Coming into the 2016-17 season, however, this remains one of the main concerns for this team. Biggest issue solved The biggest issue that the Spartans faced after their abrupt exist from the NCAA tournament this past March was their front court depth. The Spartans were losing Javon Bess and Marvin Clark Jr. to transfer, Matt Costello and Colby Wollenman to graduation and were dealt a further blow when Deyonta Davis announced he was entering the draft and hiring an agent. This left Gavin Schilling as the only player with extensive game time experience on the roster. We discussed the importance of Schilling here. The Spartans solved the front court issue through a variety of ways. They have two big men coming in Izzo’s heralded 2016 recruiting class, Nick Ward and Miles Bridges, they landed graduate transfer Ben Carter from UNLV who will be eligible to play immediately and are even looking to add a late signing in big man Taurean Thompson. While the Spartans could play more small ball with the pieces they have coming in and on the team already, a good rebounding team is one of Izzo’s staples for his teams. …
