Michigan Football’s Defensive Line Nearly Complete in 2017 Recruiting Class by Tyler Fenwick With recruiting feuds becoming even more heated, the recruitment of 5-star CB Darnay Holmes could be the next battle between Michigan football and its two biggest rivals. One of the main accomplishments of social media and the 24-hour news cycle was turning gridiron rivalries into year-round bloodbaths. It happens every so often: A big-time recruit, usually from Michigan or Ohio, has to choose between the Wolverines, Buckeyes and Spartans—or some combination of the three. You win some and lose some (“I heard that my whole life,” for you Big Sean fans). There are still some developments needed, but one of the biggest feuds of this offseason between the three (or maybe two, depending on how things turn out) could be for five-star cornerback Darnay Holmes (Calabasas, California). Great news for the Wolverines: Holmes recently told Maize n Brew that Michigan is the only team he knows for sure will make his top three when that time comes. Bad news for a recruiting war: Only two spots remain in that top three, and Michigan State didn’t even make his top seven. Granted, the Spartans just offered Holmes, and he called the offer “exciting,” but there’s some ground to be made up there. Allowed five official visits by the NCAA, Holmes is planning on using three of those visits on Michigan, Ohio State and Nebraska.
