Sporting News names Meyer top coach in Big Ten

With Jim Harbaugh having success in the NFL and a solid first year at Michigan, along with Mark Dantonio making the College Football Playoff last year, there are some people outside Columbus that feel Urban Meyer may be losing his grip as the Big Ten’s best football coach. Don’t count Sporting News among those, though, as the publication released their list of top head coaches in America, naming Meyer as second overall in the country behind Nick Saban, and tops in the Big Ten. Regarding Meyer, the Sporting News said: “The three-time national championship coach is 50-4 at Ohio State the last four season. No Power 5 coach has a higher winning percentage at their current school, and the Buckeyes will be right back in the hunt for another national title. Meyer just keeps rolling.” The remaining Big Ten rankings went as follows: 14. Darrell Hazell, Purdue 13. Chris Ash, Rutgers 12. D.J. Durkin, Maryland 11. Tracy Claeys, Minnesota 10. Kevin Wilson, Indiana 9. James Franklin, Penn State 8. Mike Riley, Nebraska 7. Lovie Smith, Illinois 6. Paul Chryst, Wisconsin 5. Pat Fitzgerald, Northwestern 4. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa 3.
